Authentic Indian Cuisine near Kingsbury

Just north of Kingsbury, the kitchen at Dawat Bar and Kitchen cooks a menu that moves from the streets of Mumbai to India’s west coast and the kitchens of Lucknow. Here are some of the dishes worth knowing.

  • Sev dahi puri and papadi chaat
  • Goan fish curry and lehsooni jhinga
  • Mughlai kadhai gosht and rogan josh
  • Six dum biryanis

Street food first

Chaat is India’s favourite snack food: crunchy, tangy and sweet all at once. At Dawat, the Bombay Chowpatty section includes panipuri (£7.25), where hollow puris are filled with spiced water, and aloo mutter tikki chaat, potato and pea patties topped with yoghurt and chutneys.

From there, move on to grills from the tandoor or a handi curry, cooked slowly in a deep pot. The Mughlai kadhai gosht and the methi lamb are both rich, warming choices for meat eaters.

About us

Flavours from coast to court

Coastal India brings coconut, curry leaves and seafood: try the Goan fish curry or Malabari prawn curry. The Mughal tradition brings slow-cooked meat and creamy sauces, as in the murgh makhanwala. And the Indo-Chinese corner of the menu, with veg Manchurian and chilli paneer, shows how Indian cooks have made Chinese flavours their own.
